Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about working with Komodo Claims after your road traffic incident.
Our FAQs
What is Credit Hire and Credit Repair?
Credit Hire is where we provide you with a temporary replacement vehicle in the event of a non-fault road traffic incident.
We will fund the car hire whilst your vehicle is being repaired, and then claim the charges back from the at-fault party’s insurer.
Credit Repair is the same principle. We will collect your vehicle, repair it, bring it back to you, and fund this for you. We will then claim the charges back from the at-fault party’s insurer.
We take care of the entire claims process:
- Recovery of your vehicle
- Provision of the Credit Hire vehicle
- Management of the entire repair process, even if your vehicle is a total Loss
What will it cost me?
Nothing.
We pay the charges for you, which is why it is called ‘Credit’ Hire and Repair. We will then claim the charges back from the at-fault party’s insurer, on your behalf.
If we are not able to recover the charges, provided you have complied with the terms of our agreement, not misled us, and co-operated with us throughout your claim, the charges will be written off!
In other words – no win no fee!
Will this affect my insurance?
No.
Your insurance policy is likely to state that you must notify your insurer an incident has occurred, but, you are not obliged to use them to handle your claim. You have freedom of choice.
Will this affect my No Claims Bonus?
No.
If you are not at fault for the incident and your insurer does not pay any monies as a result of the claim, your “No Claims Bonus” should not be affected.
Will I have to pay my excess?
If you make a claim on your insurance policy, it is likely you will have to pay an excess.
If you chose Komodo Claims to deal with your non-fault claim, you will not have to pay an excess.
The Credit Hire Car
Are you giving me a Courtesy Car?
No.
A Courtesy Car is usually provided by insurers and is a very basic small car. And that’s if they have any available at all.
Instead, we will provide you with a Credit Hire car that is the same or as similar as possible to your own car.
Will I get the same car as my own?
We will always endeavour to provide you with a car that is the same, equivalent, or as similar as possible to your own.
Can you provide me with an Electric Vehicle?
Yes.
If your own vehicle is electric, we will endeavour to provide you with the same.
Will I be liable for the Hire charges?
No.
We will claim the charges back from the at-fault party’s insurer, on your behalf.
If we are not able to recover the charges, provided you have complied with the terms of our agreement, not misled us, and co-operated with us throughout your claim, the charges will be written off!
In other words – no win no fee.
Why do I have to pay VAT?
The at-fault party is not liable to pay the VAT element of your losses if you are VAT-registered.
This is because you can recover the VAT element in your tax return (and therefore the VAT element does not constitute a loss).
The Repair Process
Who will repair my vehicle?
We have 150 approved repair shops nationwide that will repair your vehicle to industry and manufacturer standards.
They will:

- Liaise directly with our engineer to agree the repair costs, so you don’t have the hassle of obtaining estimates
- Use protective upholstery/trim covers whilst in possession of your vehicle
- Replace any fuel used in your vehicle (e.g. post-repair test drive)
- Deliver it back once it’s repaired, washed & vacuumed
- Guarantee workmanship for 5 years
- Guarantee all parts as set by the manufacturer.
Can I use my own repairer instead?
If you have a repairer of your own choice, please talk to us.
We may be able to work with them but will not be able to guarantee any of the above benefits
Can you repair Electric Vehicles?
Yes.
We have many specialist electric vehicle repairers on our network, and the expertise to repair them to industry and manufacturer standards.
Will I be liable for repair charges?
No.
